  1. The first Thanksgiving, took place in October of 1621 and lasted three days to celebrate the immigrants first successful corn harvest.
  2. The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers.
  3. Female turkeys don’t “gobble”, only males do.
  4. The balloons in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade used to just be let go after the parade ended. However, after they were let go the balloons would pop before they got too high in the sky.
  5. After the Macy’s Parade in 1997, there were maximum size regulations put in place for the balloons. During the parade there were numerous incidents that occurred due to the balloons being too large to handle properly. The most memorable of these incidents was with the Pink Panther balloon, it knocked down numerous handlers and also had to be stabbed repeatedly by police officers to deflate the balloon.
  6. About 50 million people watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade each year.
  7. Most people travel to Orlando Florida more than anywhere else on Thanksgiving.
  8. After a miscalculation of turkey sales one Thanksgiving, the company Swanson was left with tons of extra frozen turkey. This resulted in the invention of the “TV Dinner”, thanks to a suggestion by salesman Gerry Thomas.
  9. Holiday weight gain accounts for most adults that get “thicker” with age.
  10. George Washington declared the first national Thanksgiving. It was celebrated on Nov. 26 1789. In his “Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789”, he said that it was a time to thank God for protecting Americans and helping them to achieve independence.
